    The Outdoor Project

The Outdoor Project seeks to create a safe, collaborative space in nature for young people who struggle with traditional classroom settings. This project offers the opportunity to come together in a neutral, supportive environment where they can share thoughts, feelings, and creativity without pressure to achieve specific outcomes or produce a final product.

The programme is co-delivered by Suzy Strudwick, CEO of Go Wild With Us, Alex Ramsden, lead therapist at SVC and Steph White, youth worker SVC.  Together they bring over a decade of collaborative experience delivering creative, nature-based and wellbeing projects in Croydon with those at risk of or experiencing exclusion from education and children with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Sessions take place at Heartwood, a dedicated wellbeing site created at Frylands Camp Site. Here, young people are given the freedom to reconnect with nature, express themselves and find belonging in a collaborative environment designed to nurture their creativity, resilience and sense of self. They are offered a balance of guided and free activities. Examples include: storytelling and shared narratives around a campfire, mindful woodland walks, creative making with natural materials, expressive practices such as “earth cries” and self-exploration through therapeutic creative tools.
