What We Do

Teaching and learning

We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum which enables learners to make progress within our small school setting, with group sizes of up to 8 pupils per class.

 

The subjects offered are English, Maths, Science, RE, PE, Media studies, Business studies and statistics. We also run the Prince’s Trust Achieve programme, to empower pupils to make positive change, develop resilience and reengagement in education to help prepare for the next stage of their education.

Vocational Offer

Some students benefit from a vocational element to their timetable. We are able to offer:

  • Motor mechanics and Construction at Beckmead College
  • Hair and Beauty Level 1 and 2, at Road to Success
  • Construction Level 1 at Road to Success
  • Horticulture at Capel Manor
  • Music at Scream Studios
  • Cycle maintenance at Croydon Auto Bike Scheme

Therapeutic support

All pupils have access to the following depending on their need:

  • Support from staff trained to deliver ELSA programmes to help pupils manage their behaviour
  • Restorative meetings with peers to avoid any conflict.
  • Mentoring
  • Access to the Educational Psychologist, to assess if there are any unidentified needs.

Reintegration

The induction and reintegration coordinator will work closely with students to assess their readiness to return to school. If a pupil has an excellent record of attendance, good focus and behaviour in lessons, they will be presented at the Fair Access Panel [FAP] to return to a Croydon school.

Reintegration at the end of Year 11 will be supporting  the transition to 6Th form; college employment or apprenticeships. To prepare for this we offer:

  • 1-1 information and guidance sessions to ensure pupils are selecting appropriate course options.
  • Employability lessons delivered as part of the Prince’s Trust.
  • Opportunities to attend mock interviews and work experience placements.

Behaviour for learning

All teachers contribute to establishing a positive environment for learning. We believe in strong partnerships with parents and carers and will :

  • Send regular reports home
  • Have individual termly meetings with parents and pupils to discuss progress and skills for learning.
  • Regularly contact parents with good news and anything we may be concerned about e.g. attendance
